SUP Yoga, Nottingham
A few weeks ago I tried my very first SUP yoga session with the lovely Cassie Paxton of SUP Yoga, Nottingham. Now, I’ve never been to either a stand up paddleboard session in the UK, let alone a yoga stand up paddleboard session, but being something id wanted to try for a while, I took the plunge and had a go!
I’ve paddleboarded a few times before in Greece and Menorca and loved it every time. Its a fun workout and you get to chill out at the same time; anyone who knows me knows how much i love to chill out!!
I windsurfed a lot as a kid… from the age of about 8 right until a few years ago. I was ok, did national comps all over the country but mainly did it for the social life… I still keep in touch with a lot of my old windsurfing friends even now, 15 years later!
Anyway! Whats that got to do with it? Well, my years of windsurfing on small litre short boards has paid off, because my balance was pretty decent… phew!
The session started with some basic paddle techniques and balance points, then we got stuck in. The wind was almost none existent which was perfect, and the sun was dully shining.
I’m a complete novice when it comes to yoga… never been to a class as never quite got round to it.
That didn’t matter though, Cassie worked us through basic yoga poses on our board including the classic downward and upward facing dog, sun salutation poses and plank among a few.
The class lasted around an hour and that was plenty. It ended with us aimlessly floating around Highfields Lake, feeling at one with nature.
In all honesty I’ve never enjoyed an exercise class quite as much as this one. It was just me all over. Would I go again? I’m booked in for my next class tomorrow!
