Unicorn Frappe
Dear oh dear oh dear… Starbucks, what are you playing at?
Earlier this week, Starbucks – the much loved world wide coffee chain with questionable moral codes – released the ‘Unicorn Frappe.’ Queue beautiful ladies with long hair in the sunshine, flicking back their hair and tucking into a neon-coloured ‘drink,’ whilst posing for a flawless looking Instagram post.
Unicorns are very much in fashion at the moment, and Starbucks couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon with this one. I’m not against the bright colours (although it does concern me to think eating something that chemically altered can’t be good for you, surely?), but when I looked at what is actually in these drinks, I nearly fell over.
76g of SUGAR PER DRINK! 76g! Per ‘freshing’ drink… around 3 times your daily ‘allowance’ (which is already most likely too high), in ONE DRINK. 15 teaspoons to be exact. The one saving grace of this whole marketing ploy, is that it is not available in the UK.
I can’t comment on the taste, I wouldn’t try it even if I could, be the fact that this drink is so brazen in promoting unhealthy life choices worries me. So what can we do about it? I certainly won’t be eating or drinking at Starbucks in the near future as this is just another nail in the coffin for me.
I set up this post to get other people’s thoughts… What do you think about the new Unicorn Frappe? Will you be trying it? Have you tried it? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
