Boston Beef Tacos
A bit of a cheat (and cheap) Boston Beef Tacos recipe. I’m a sucker for the slow cooker. I’m out for 12 hours a day Monday to Friday, give or take 30 minutes or so, so my slow cooker is an absolute saviour. Most of the time by the time I get home, I really can’t be bothered to cook. There’s so many things you can do with a slow cooker that most people don’t even realise, and here’s one way you can use it to create easy meals with minimal effort. I also find a lot of the cuts of meat which work well in the slow cooker are really cheap because they take a long time to cook.
This Boston Beef Tacos recipe costs around £2 per head making it a great sharer for a dinner party or family meal.

- 500 g beef joint braising steak, silverside, whichever is on offer
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion
- 1 large avocado
- 3 tbsp Greek Yoghurt
- 50 g soft cheese
- 3 cloves garlic
- 12 tacos
- salt and pepper
- Set your slow cooker on a low setting. Place your joint and the olive oil in the slow cooker and cook for approximately 4 hours.
- Once that's cooked, (I usually set the plug timer to come on 4 hours before I will be getting back to the house), take it out the slow cooker and slice it down to strips. In a frying pan, add a touch of oil and turn to a low heat.
- Thinly slice your onion, crush the garlic and add soft cheese all to the pan. After 10 minutes or so on a low heat, add your beef. Stir until it's all covered in some cheese and the onion has cooked.
- Turn off the heat and stir through the greek yoghurt. Serve the beef in tacos with a side of rice or salad if feeding more people. Add salt and pepper to taste and top with chunks of avocado.
- If you're feeling really cheeky, add a tbsp of brandy to the beef when you add it to the frying pan, but be careful as you do this as it could flame as the alcohol burns.
