Persiana by Sabrina Ghayour – ***** Review
I haven’t posted a book review before but I thought I’d give it a go!
I got this book, Persiana by Sabrina Ghayour a little while ago now. So far, I’ve been completely addicted to middle eastern food! I’ve tried nearly all of the recipes in a week and tried so many new flavours I’d never known how to incorporate before.
This book is perfect for beginners and seasoned cooks alike. I like to think I’m somewhere in the middle and some of the recipes have been a great challenge, and others have been super simple – perfect for post-work meals, etc.
The book doesn’t go overboard on ingredients either. It uses very similar spices all the way through; the only spice I had to buy in was Saffron, which features quite a lot. As long as you’ve got some garlic, lemons and a well stocked spice rack, you’ll be fine with this book.
The recipes are set out really simply. Most only have between 2-5 steps all of which are very clear to work through and not overly complicated at all, which is exactly what I like. I’ve tried several recipes and none have taken me more than 30 minutes to prep and cook; Jamie Oliver eat your heart out!
The book is well laid out so that you can mix and match your meals – I like this. I don’t like a ‘set menu’ and this book allows you to mix your meat dishes, salad dishes, rice dishes, veg dishes etc, or you can eat them as a Mezze. Excellent for dinner parties too!
All in all I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this book. It’s packed full of flavour infused food in an easy to use format. Highly recommended!
Why not have a gander at the Persian Rice Pudding, partly taken from Sabrina’s Persiana book… you won’t be disappointed!
